On the eve of Northern Crusades, the Oeselians were summarized in the Livonian Rhymed Chronicle thus: "The Oeselians, neighbors to the Kurs (Curonians), are surrounded by the sea and never fear strong armies as their strength is in their ships."
Right now members of AEB Alunaut, Saare Paat, Kasse Paadid and Lindvart are in Helsinki at Vene Båt, Northern Europe’s biggest boating event. The show takes place at the Helsinki Exhibition & Convention Centre and it started last Friday (10th February) and ends in the forthcoming weekend.
AEB has regularly exhibited Estonian small rowingboats at Turku boatshow, and so we will this Spring, too. Traditionally Kasse boats, Linda seriesand wooden boats will be present and this year we will be clever enough to bring Saaremaas handcraft and souvenires with us. See you there! At its annual Assembly General meeting held in June 2011 in Rotterdam (Netherlands), European Boating Industry elected its new Council for 2011-2013. Composites Europe is the biggest European trade fair and forum for composites, technology and applications. It is being held in Stuttgart (Germany) from 27 to 29 September 2011. Over 300 exhibitors from 25 countries will be showcasing their fibre-reinforced plastic technologies and products at the event. More on www.composites-europe.com

A seminar organised by TUT Faculty of Mechanical Engineering introduces new materials and technologies exploitable in shipbuilding. The keynote speakers are from TUT and Southampton Uni (see the programme). The seminar will be held in Saaremaa SPA Hotel Meri during May 5-6.
